The Decatur Fire Department is a volunteer fire department that is comprised of up to 16 firefighters. It was ordained by the council in ordinance 51 section 1 to create, and organize a volunteer Fire Department consisting of a chief, assistant chief and 16 volunteer firefighters. This ordinance went into effect in May of 1949. For more information on the fire department and its establishment click here.
Every year the Decatur Volunteer Fire Department sends out notices for citizens living in the Decatur Fire District but outside the city limits, to remind them to pay their dues, which are due from April to May. For citizens living inside the city limits, their dues are added to the water bill.
